At SPC, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a core focus. It is an entrenched belief that a sound CSR plan is part of business sustainability, ensuring business decisions and operations contribute positively to the long-term well-being of the business and the community where SPC operates.

SPC's CSR mission is a holistic endeavour and the efforts are categorised in the areas of corporate governance, enterprise risk management, environment, health, safety and security (EHSS), community engagement, and human resource practices. Robust enterprise risk management processes, heightened EHSS and corporate governance practices as well as employee and community welfare will ensure the continued success of SPC.

Whether it is upgrading its refinery to produce cleaner fuels, ensuring that all business operations are conducted safely, communicating with investors and the public, extending community outreach or promoting staff volunteerism and employee wellness, SPC seeks to integrate CSR and its business activities.

Focusing on its core strengths and leveraging its track record as an enterprise with tradition, integrity and compassion, SPC lives up to its corporate dictum of Caring for tomorrow, today by building a sustainable enterprise.

In March 2008, SPC formed a cross-functional CSR Committee which comprises representatives from all business and support units. The Committee is championed by the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Legal Officer, and chaired by Marketing and Investor Relations & Communications. With clearly defined annual objectives and targets, the Committee meets at least once a month to discuss pertinent CSR issues relevant to the Company. The Committee also provides quarterly updates on CSR developments and initiatives to the Board of Directors. This allows for a more concerted and focused approach towards building SPC into a sustainable enterprise.
