Claims Executive

Job Overview

This role is responsible for managing and overseeing the claims process within the company, with a particular focus on demurrage and B2B claims. The Claims Executive will liaise and negotiate with supplier and receiver counterparties to maximize receivable claims and achieve mutually beneficial solutions for payable claims.

 

Responsibilities

  • Liaise and negotiate with supplier/receiver counterparties regarding claims. Maintain a proactive approach to maximize receivable claims and strive to achieve win-win solutions with payable claims. Manage the treatment of B2B claims efficiently.
  • Effectively manage open demurrage claims in the Portal and keep track of growing volumes. Be sensitive to any potential snowballing of aging claims and proactively collaborate with the relevant business unit representatives to monitor and settle these claims.
  • Identify potential exposures to the company and report pending claims that may have adverse impacts to the Trader & Shipping Team Lead.
  • Compile and report the monthly trading demurrage report. Handle ad-hoc demurrage inquiries and reporting requirements from HQ or other stakeholders.
  • Maintain smooth relationships with counterparts to uphold the company’s image in the market and facilitate more effective negotiations and claims agreements.
  • Coordinate closely with trading operators and maintain a healthy inter- and intra-departmental working relationship. Work in close cooperation with other demurrage team members and ensure coverage during absences (e.g., during leave).
  • Counter demurrage claims within the time bar.
  • Maintain systematic filing and record-keeping practices to ensure easy retrieval of files and records when needed.
  • Analyze and counter claims according to the Contract of Purchase (CP) terms and conditions to minimize costs.
  • Monitor all claims-related emails and send timely reminders to the cargo team or legal team, as necessary, when any legal notice is received from counterparties.
  • Attend work-related training sessions whenever possible.
  • Prepare monthly reports accurately and ensure good record-keeping practices.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in maritime, shipping, logistics or equivalent. 
  • Min 3 years of relevant working experience in shipping or oil trading industry.
  • Good understanding of contracts (incoterms FOB, CIF, DES), charter parties, and key lay-time and demurrage provisions.
  • Strong analytical skills and commercial awareness.
  • Possess good verbal and written negotiation skills.
  • Good team player and self-motivated. Meticulous and inquisitive.
